Enhancing management, education and research of
Australia's marine resources
Science Under Sail Australia has three delivery areas:
Velella, our 12m sailing catamaran, has been used since 2002 as a mobile research platform.
She circumnavigated Australia in 2012 and has undertaken water quality surveys in Australia's Great Barrier Reef, as well as completing regular seagrass surveys in Moreton Bay.
Velella can carry up to 24 people making her an excellent training platform for people of all ages.
Through a collaboration between Science Under Sail Australia, Earthwatch and Healthy Waterways we deliver three citizen science programs a year.
We are also developing education programs with Queensland University of Technology and several high schools in Brisbane to enhance understanding of Moreton Bay.
